Savers in approved foreign banks protected

Savers with money in the UK-authorised arms of overseas banks have had 100 per cent of their savings implicitly guaranteed by the chancellor, savings analysts say.

Following Alistair Darling's pledge to UK customers of Icesave "to stand behind those depositors so they get their money back", it now seems likely that all savers with the UK arms of overseas banks will have the same unlimited protection.
