AOL seeks local audiences with two acquisitions

Time Warner’s AOL broke a long streak of deal inactivity on Thursday after announcing the purchase of two small companies, Patch and Going, that target local communities as smaller newspaper businesses wither.

Combined, the two deals are worth under $15m, one person familiar with the plan said, but reflects a renewed focus on serving consumers of news, information and entertainment in small markets.
