Asian countries must act quickly if they are to keep the region's Aids epidemic in check, Kofi Annan, secretary-general of the United Nations, has warned.

"There is no time to lose if we are to prevent the epidemic in Asia from spinning out of control," Mr Annan said during the opening ceremony of an international Aids conference in Bangkok.
