Court agrees to freeze Livingstone suspension as mayor until appeal

Ken Livingstone has succeeded in freezing his four-week suspension as mayor of London, ordered by a disciplinary panel, over his controversial remarks to an Evening Standard journalist.

A High Court judge agreed to stay the sanction until his appeal over the penalty imposed by the Adjudication Panel of England, the local authority watchdog, had been heard. Had Mr Livingstone not succeeded, the suspension would have started today.
