Dollar rallies as Bush eyes budget deficit

Dollar bulls received just about the worst possible news this week: a massive widening of the US trade deficit, to £60.3bn in November.

Yet, in a display of almost unprecedented resilience, by Friday the dollar was only marginally lower on the week against most leading currencies.
