Archbishop ‘unrepentant’ as row deepens

The row over the archbishop of Canterbury’s controversial comments backing the adoption of aspects of Sharia law in the UK deepened on Friday with a government minister accusing him of concocting “a recipe for social chaos”.

An aide to Rowan Williams said the archbishop was “unrepentant”, believing he had generated a necessary and long-term debate through proposals that were designed to promote social cohesion and interfaith dialogue.
