Pierre Danon, outspoken chief executive of BT Retail, BT Group's consumer division, is leaving the company to take up a senior post at Capgemini, fuelling speculation of a boardroom rift at the UK's dominant telecommunications operator.

BT said yesterday Mr Danon would be leaving in the new year to join the French IT services group as chief operating officer at its offices in Paris.
