Motorola to spin off mobile phone business

Motorola, the 80-year-old American company that pioneered the car radio, walkie-talkies and the mobile phone, is to separate its struggling handset business from its other operations.

The move to create two separate publicly traded companies comes after months of agitation from disgruntled investors led by corporate raider Carl Icahn.
