Councils step up fight against agencies

Councils stepped up their war of words with the credit ratings agencies on Tuesday as it emerged that 116 local authorities had put £860m ($1.5bn) on deposit in Icelandic banks.

The Local Government Association called for a government inquiry into agencies such as Fitch, Moody’s and Standard & Poors and whether they should have been more critical of the Reykjavik banks.
