It’s 1999 and another plucky British dotcom is planning to take on the world. Wendy Tan White, founder of Moonfruit, a website building service, tells Revolution magazine that her company’s main competitor is Geocities, one of the most popular sites on the internet and acquired by Yahoo for $3.6bn (£2.2bn) in stock.
Fast forward 10 years and Yahoo has just announced it will shut Geocities later this year. Moonfruit, meanwhile, is one of the few dotcom start-ups from the late 1990s to have survived.
