BNP wins first seats in European Parliament

The far-right British National party won its first two seats in the European parliament on Sunday night in a result that ministers warned would mark a "day of shame" for the nation.

In a shock result, the party’s leader, Nick Griffin, claimed one seat in the northwest with eight per cent of thte vote. The party took a second seat in the Yorkshire and Humber region with 10 per cent support.
