Liverpool: Now a vibrant, confident city

The last 100 years have not been kind to Liverpool. Once dubbed the second city of the Empire, it has lost much of  the wealth and influence associated with its heyday as Britain’s biggest port.

Most of the second half of the last century has been spent in a spiral of  socio-economic decline which has left it as one of the UK’s most deprived cities.
