China Life is in talks with AIG, the stricken US insurer, over a possible bid for some of its Asian life assurance assets, a top Beijing official said on Thursday.

People familiar with the matter do not expect any Chinese group to launch a bid for American International Assurance when the first-round deadline expires on Friday.
