Of all the things the Financial Times provides for its Sander Thoenes fellows – the company of outstanding journalists, the readiness to test and trust a young colleague, sage advice and even the occasional game of five-a-side football – the only one left to chance during my three months was the military coup.
Being dispatched on my third day in the office to chase the toppled Thai prime minister around London was typical of what would follow.
