Remzi Gür: High places pose big risk

Most businessmen in Turkey worry about whether they have enough friends and allies in politics. Remzi Gür is the exception: a businessman who claims he was targeted for being too close to the prime minister – and could soon suffer for it with a 10-year prison sentence.

Mr Gür’s recent legal woes jar with a career of accomplishments worthy of any Turkish captain of industry. Working in the vanguard of one of Turkey’s main export sectors, Mr Gür built a multimillion pound clothing and retail empire with factories in Turkey and outlets from Almaty in the east to Dublin in the west.
