Frankfurt finance is in fear of a drift from 'Mainhattan' to marginalisation

When Petra Roth first came to power as Frankfurt's mayor in 1995, there were great expectations in the city - and fears in London - that the impending launch of the euro would provide a killer advantage to the place that was to host the European Central Bank.

With hubris as well as humour, the city on the river Main was dubbed "Mainhattan".
