Mobile phone TV format hits crunch point

A drive to spur Europeans to watch television on their mobile phones reaches a crucial point tomorrow when Brussels backs one technology as a European Union standard for the service.

Viviane Reding, EU media commissioner, could clash with parts of the telecoms industry when she picks the Nokia and Motorola-supported DVB-H format as the "strongest contender" for union-wide use.
