Academies call for G8 action on climate change

The national science academies from the Group of Eight industrialised nations intervened in the climate change debate yesterday, calling on the G8 to take immediate action to stave off "adverse environmental effects" from global warming.

In their first joint statement, the academies said there was now strong evidence of significant global warming occurring.
