Low-cost passive investment and open architecture – offering bank customers “best of breed” products from the full smorgasbord of competing investment houses – are two concepts that chime with the fund management zeitgeist.
But neither are likely to darken the door of JPMorgan as long as Jes Staley has any say in the matter. And given that Mr Staley has just been promoted to lead JPMorgan’s investment bank – and is being touted as heir apparent to chief executive Jamie Dimon – he is likely to have plenty of say for some time to come.
