Lewis Hamilton scrambled and scraped his way to the world driver's championship in an astonishing climax to the Formula One season, at the age of 23 becoming the youngest ever champion.

In what he described as the toughest race of his short career, the British driver, who led the championship for most of the season, needed to finish fifth or better in the Brazilian grand prix to overcome his nearest challenger, Brazil's Felipe Massa.
