If you take a look at the composition of the leading wine funds, it is pretty clear where they are focusing attention to maximise returns. The answer, of course, is red bordeaux. Occasionally, there might be room for a splash of burgundy, but in most cases it is investment grade claret time and time again.
But what about prestige cuvée champagne? Surely, the likes of Krug, Cristal, Dom Perignon and Salon meet most, if not all, of the investment criteria in terms of status, quality, ageing, price appreciation, rarity, critical acclaim and demand.
