Al-Qaeda threat over Rushdie honour

Al-Qaeda is preparing to retaliate against the UK for awarding a knighthood to author Salman Rushdie, according to a 20-minute audiotape recording from Ayman al-Zawahiri, Osama bin Laden’s deputy, that emerged on Tuesday.

The message from the former Egyptian eye surgeon, which was posted on a website often used by Islamic militants, warned of a “very precise response”.
