Fabius announces French presidential bid

Laurent Fabius, French socialist and former prime minister, said on Tuesday that he wanted to run for president in 2007, challenging the party leader Francois Holland and opening a pre-electoral contest which is likely to divide further France’s main opposition party.

When asked at a press conference if he would run for the presidential election Mr Fabius firmly answered: “Oui.”
