Chris Bones is to step down as dean of Henley Business School next summer after six years in the job. An international search is being initiated to find his replacement.

Mr Bones was one of the first European deans to be appointed from a business rather than an academic background and was brought in to turn round the loss-making Henley Management College, as it was then called. He pioneered the merger of Henley with the University of Reading, creating Henley Business School. In the process he abandoned Henley’s independent degree-awarding status, a move that was greeted with mixed reactions from faculty, many of whom saw the move as a takeover of the business school by the larger university.
