Postal strikes off until new year

Postal strikes were called off on Thursday night until at least the new year, bringing relief to businesses and consumers in the run-up to Christmas.

Agreement had been reached on a “period of calm” in which Royal Mail and the Communication Workers Union could hold further talks to reach a long-term deal, said Brendan Barber, general secretary of the Trades Union Congress.
