Irish will vote again on Lisbon treaty next year

Ireland will hold a second referendum on the European Union's Lisbon treaty by the end of next October, according to a draft communiqué prepared for this week's EU summit.

Irish voters threw the EU into turmoil last June when they rejected the treaty, which aims to reform the workings of the union, by a 53.4 to 46.6 per cent margin, ensuring that it could not come into force as planned this coming January.
