Water prices will remain broadly flat for the next five years, Ofwat, the industry regulator said on Thursday in a move that cheered customers and tempered the pessimism of water companies that had expected prices to fall, even as their costs rose.
Ofwat’s “final determination” foresees average household water bills declining 1 per cent over the five-year period, from an average of £343 per year in 2010 to £340 in 2015. Inflation could make the bills cheaper in real terms.
