Townies lead way as beekeeping takes off

Beekeeping has become a surprisingly popular pastime among city dwellers as people turn increasingly to environmentally sound hobbies.

The British Beekeepers Association said its membership had risen by a quarter to 11,000 in the past two years, driven by the rise in urban enthusiasts. Training courses for would-be apiarists were over-subscribed with long waiting lists in urban areas.
