Flat-panel price fall may help producers

Sharp falls in flat-screen panel prices over the past few months owing to oversupply are hitting the earnings of the world’s biggest producers of the devices.

South Korea’s Samsung Electronics, the world’s largest liquid crystal display maker, reported a 12 per cent fall in second quarter operating profits on Friday compared with the first three months, partly owing to falling prices of thin film transistor (TFT) LCDs.
