For China, 2005 was year of media crackdown

As 2005 drew to a close, China’s official Xinhua news agency issued a list of its top 10 stories for the year that was an excellent example of the kind of coverage the country’s leaders like to see.

Half of the stories centred on decisions taken or policies adopted by the government or ruling Communist party. Three focused on achievements in transport, space and the economy.
