SEC enforcement director cleared

A judge has determined that the Securities and Exchange Commission’s enforcement director did not violate the SEC’s code of conduct in the 2005 investigation of a matter involving John Mack, who was about to be named chief executive of Morgan Stanley.

Brenda Murray, an administrative law judge at the SEC, ruled Friday that Linda Chatman Thomsen, the commission’s enforcement director, did not deserve to be disciplined for her actions.
