Tories attack Brown’s jobs policy switch

The Tories accused Gordon Brown on Friday of backtracking on his promise to deliver “British jobs for British workers” after the prime minister said he was merely “persuading” companies to hire the long-term unemployed.

In an interview with Sky News, Mr Brown insisted the pledge was fair and said he was working with companies to employ long-term benefits claimants, who are overwhelmingly British, rather than foreign immigrants.
