Beijing blames new rules for toy recall

The Chinese government on Thursday blamed changes in international safety standards, rather than a problem with local manufacturers, for Mattel’s huge recall last week of Chinese-made toys.

The US company is recalling 18.2m products, including Barbie play sets, because they contain small magnets that children can swallow, resulting in severe intestinal injuries.
