A simple radio show a few months ago provided a rare window into deepening concerns among locals in the United Arab Emirates, many of whom say they feel like foreigners in their own land.
Eighty per cent of the federation’s population is expatriate, a figure that rises even higher in Dubai, the centre of the melting pot of hundreds of nationalities that can sometimes give the entrepot emirate the atmosphere of the bar in Star Wars, where nationalities mix amid an air of tension.
