China under fire over capital punishment

China’s human rights record came under the spotlight again on Tuesday after Amnesty International published a report showing that it continues to execute more people than any other country.

According to Amnesty, China tops the league of countries making use of the death penalty with a minimum estimated figure of 470 deaths last year, although the real figure is likely to be “several thousand”.
