Unocal to hold talks with CNOOC over $20bn bid

Unocal said it intends to promptly start talks with the China National Offshore Oil Corporation after it received permission from rival suitor Chevron to explore the state-owned Chinese oil company’s $20bn bid.

Unocal’s board said it maintained its backing for the agreed $16.45bn takeover offer made by Chevron in April.
