Labour’s Glasgow win eases pressure on Brown

The pressure on Gordon Brown has eased after Labour’s strong performance in a Glasgow by-election where it easily saw off a challenge by the Scottish National party.

But the victory in Glasgow North East, where Labour’s majority was only slightly reduced from 10,134 to 8,111, may not prove a sound indicator of the party’s prospects for the general election next summer.
