Sir, While I enjoyed Simon Schama's review of The Invention of the Jewish People by the Israeli historian Shlomo Sand (November 14/15), his criticism is undercut by the claim that "scholarly consensus" places the creation of the core of the Old Testament in the 9th century BC. No such consensus exists.
