Indonesia shuns freeze on repayment of debt

Indonesia would prefer western countries to provide loans, grants and trade advantages rather than a debt moratorium in response to the tsunami disaster, Hassan Wirajuda, Indonesia's foreign minister said on Thursday.

His comments, coming only a day after the Paris Club of rich creditor governments offered Jakarta a temporary freeze on debt payments, reflect Jakarta's determination to set its own agenda on how to recover from the disaster, which claimed 105,000 lives in Aceh province.
