Orascom sets its sights on mobile banking

Orascom Telecom, a leading mobile phone operator in emerging markets, is planning to launch a new company this year offering banking services to the group's 70m customers.

Naguib Sawiris, chairman of the Cairo-based telecommunications group, told the Financial Times the company would be an Orascom subsidiary offering customers the chance to use their mobiles to access banking services, including money transfer.
