Fund managers specialising in 130/30 funds were left gnashing their teeth at the recent Fund Forum extravaganza in Monaco when a discussion on the apparent failure of Ucits III-style absolute return funds morphed into a debate on the relative merits of these "short-extension" vehicles.
Rodney Williams, managing director of Feri Fund Market Information, put the cat among the pigeons when he linked the hype surrounding absolute return funds in Monaco in 2004 with that building around 130/30 this time around.
