Gazprom andEni axe deal after dispute

Eni, the Italian energy group, and Russia's Gazprom yesterday scrapped a gas distribution deal amid a contract dispute and a row involving a businessman close to Silvio Berlusconi, Italy's prime minister.

Eni said last night after the heads of the two companies had met in Moscow that the deal signed in May was "outdated". The groups agreed to meet again this month to try to forge a "new and wider deal".
