Asia gets a little nervous as the year of the Ox begins

Fund managers in Asia may be feeling a little nervous today, as it marks the start of the Year of the Ox in the Chinese astrological calendar.

Investment advisers may not be superstitious but their customers in the region often are. Few would want a repeat of what happened in 1997 during the last Year of the Ox – it comes round every 12 years – when the Asian financial crisis swept through the region.
