Power failure forces halt to ICE trading

The Intercontinental Exchange, the electronic commodities exchange, was forced to completely shut its trading platform for over an hour on Thursday morning due to a power outage.

The outage affected the Atlanta-based company’s new data centre, established only late last year, in Chicago. ICE has always been completely electronic but in spite of the boom in electronic trading, several other exchanges have retained their trading floors as they are still seen by some as a useful safety net in cases of technical failure.
