HIV and the NHS – a new relationship?

The relationship between HIV and the NHS must, as for all conditions, adapt as treatment and care changes and develops.

In the early years, HIV affected almost exclusively gay men, with no cure or effective treatment available. The NHS response was mainly one of diagnosis, the treatment of opportunistic infections and palliative care.
