Review urges personal data overhaul

A far-reaching overhaul of the handling of personal information by companies and the government will be demanded on Friday by an official review, which warns that public confidence in the safeguarding of data is “evaporating”.

It recommends a clampdown on sources of junk mail, cold calling and spam e-mail, as well as calling for ministers to make it easier for the public to keep track of who holds personal information about them.
