Distrust caps Kurdish oil exports

Ashti Hawrami, the oil minister in Iraq’s northern Kurdish region, finally got his way this summer, when the Baghdad government agreed to allow oil from the territory to be exported for the first time through the national pipeline.

For years after the fall of Saddam, the regional government had been locked in a bitter dispute with Baghdad over its right to exploit its natural resources.
