All to play for in battle for FCC leadership

The shape of the future Federal Communications Commission remains a key question for the media and telecommunications industries, with the White House giving little immediate indication about who will succeed Michael Powell as chairman in March.

Kevin Martin, a Republican FCC commissioner with close ties to the US president, is lobbying for the job and is widely regarded as the most likely candidate. But previous clashes with Mr Powell on the deregulation of telecoms make his appointment far from a foregone conclusion.
