Clash in Paris on executive pay curbs

France's finance minister yesterday warned against hasty rules to curb excessive executive pay as Nicolas Sarkozy, the president, told business leaders to change their behaviour or face legislation.

"We should not rush into ill-informed, speedy and not necessarily efficient legislation," Christine Lagarde, French finance minister, told the Financial Times.
