John Lewis weekly sales surge

John Lewis’ sales surged by more than a quarter in the post-Christmas week as customers flocked to its clearance sales.

Sales in the week to January 3 rose 27.4 per cent on the same period last year to £78.6m with the department store chain’s discounted clothes and electrical goods selling particularly strongly.
